Fred Hirsch nailed it!
First published in 1974 immediately after the coup in Chile that brought the dictator Augusto Pinochet to power and crushed all democratic institutions, trade unions for example, the AFL-CIO and its government/business partner, the American Institute for Free Labor Development (AIFLD) intensified their assault on legitimate, class oriented trade unions in Latin America to quell workers' power and democratic organizing.
This little pamphlet summarizes the AFL-CIO's dirty work and is still relevant for trade union activists today, in 2018-44 years later! The same bankrupt foreign policy, the same shady alliances with big businesses like Coca-Cola and Nestlé in Columbia and other nations in Latin America. I strongly recommend this pamphlet to any student interested in the history of U.S. misdeeds that have made organizing trade unions very difficult, but not impossible. Fred Hirsch has done an invaluable service to class struggle trade unionism.
